Yuille, John C. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
An experiment is reported in which connective recall, as well as noun recall, was obtained in a pair-associate learning, syntactic facilitation paradigm. Results were interpreted as consistent with the hypothesis that experimenter-supplied verb links facilitate noun pair learning by serving an instructional role, indicating to the subject how a…
Descriptors: Children, Learning Processes, Nouns, Paired Associate Learning

Epstein, Michael L. – Journal of Psychology, 1974
Examines the effects of sex differences, grade, and processing levels in incidental learning and recall of paired associates. (RB)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Paired Associate Learning, Recall (Psychology), Retention Studies

McCall, James; Rae, Gordon – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1974
Results showed that visual presentation was superior to auditory which was, in turn, superior to a combined mode of presentation. (RB)
Descriptors: Aural Learning, Educational Research, Higher Education, Learning Processes

Denney, Nancy Wadsworth – Developmental Psychology, 1974
Two kinds of paired associate lists (complementary and similarity relationships) were presented to middle-aged and elderly subjects for free recall. (DP)
Descriptors: Adults, Age Differences, Cluster Analysis, Human Development

Calhoun, JoAnne P. – Developmental Psychology, 1974
Developmental and cultural factors in the use of imagery in learning and retaining specific paired associate tasks were studied in Anglo and Spanish American children. (ST)
Descriptors: Cultural Influences, Elementary School Students, Imagery, Paired Associate Learning

Everston, Carolyn M.; Wicker, Frank W. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
Paired associate learning by children was studied as a function of age (4 vs 7 yr), stimulus type (line drawing, color photograph, or object), and mode of elaboration (visual or verbal). Results showed that objects and photographs both surpassed line drawings in terms of learning and that they did not differ significantly from each other. (SBT)

Duffy, James C.; Kanak, N. Jack – American Journal of Psychology, 1975
Two experiments contrasted the effects of high and low ego strength (as measured by Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire) on confidence thresholds (FG scores) under the anticipation and recall methods. (Editor)
Descriptors: Paired Associate Learning, Personality Assessment, Psychological Studies, Recall (Psychology)

Turnure, James E.; Thurlow, Martha L. – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1975

Newman, Slater E.; Jennette, A. Douglas – American Journal of Psychology, 1975
To test the prediction from generalization theory that the ease of learning an item will be inversely related to the size of the set of which it is a member, 80 subjects were exposed to a serially presented list of pairs for 15 trials. (Editor)
Descriptors: Learning Processes, Paired Associate Learning, Psychological Studies, Research Methodology

ALLEN, VERNON L.; BRAGG, BARRY W. – 1967
SEVENTY-FIVE FEMALE PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A STUDY WHICH INVESTIGATED THE EFFECT OF GROUP PRESSURE ON THE RETENTION OF PREVIOUSLY LEARNED VERBAL MATERIAL IN A CONTROLLED LABORATORY SETTING. THE SUBJECTS WERE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED TO FIVE SITUATIONS, 15 TO A GROUP, AND WENT THROUGH 4 STEPS IN THE EXPERIMENT -- (1) ORIGINAL LEARNING, (2)…

Lovelace, Eugene A. – 1974
Evidence was found for an ability to monitor during learning the degree of retrievability of the to-be-learned material from memory at time of a subsequent test. Students were given three successive study trials to learn either a list of 60 paired associates or a free-recall list of 60 "unrelated" words. During a fourth study trial, they rated on…

Wolford, George – 1973
Seven experiments were run to determine the precise nature of some of the variables which affect the processing of short-term visual information. In particular, retinal location, report order, processing order, lateral masking, and redundancy were studied along with the nature of the confusion errors which are made in the full report procedure.…

Jones, Mary E.; Farley, Frank H. – 1970
This report focuses on memory research, using 'interestingness' as a variable in paired-associate (PA) learning and retention. Nine PA lists were constructed from 'interestingness' ratings (high, medium, and low) on both stimulus and response sides, and controls over associative properties of stimulus and response terms. Subjects (162) were…
