Sprenger-Charolles, Liliane; Siegel, Linda S.; Bechennec, Danielle; Serniclaes, Willy – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2003
Development of children's phonological and orthographic processing was studied from middle of grade 1 to end of grade 4. Signs of reliance on phonological processing were found on reading aloud, spelling, and silent reading tasks, even with indicators of reliance on orthographic processing. Hazemi, Louise – English Quarterly, 2001
Describes the development of the course Pageturner 9 - Advanced Literacy. Yoon, Jun-Chae – Reading Improvement, 2002
Investigates the overall effect of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) on attitude toward reading and identifies the moderator variables of SSR on it. Saracho, Olivia N.; Dayton, C. Mitchell – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1989
A sample of 2,232 children, aged three-five years, was administered the Preschool Reading Attitudes Scale to assess the developmental aspects of reading attitudes. Factor analysis on test-retest results for 360 subjects indicated stable and interpretable factors distinguishing three-, four-, and five-year-old students. (TJH)

Wilkinson, Ian; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1988
Data from a study on silent classroom reading with 105 learning disabled students (aged 6-12 years) are reanalyzed using linear structural equation modeling. It appears that, when entry-level abilities are controlled, silent reading did not have a significant effect on posttest reading performance. (TJH)

Daneman, Meredyth; Newson, Margaret – Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, 1992
Uses a concurrent speaking model to assess the importance of subvocalization during the reading of lengthy natural prose passages. Kailani, Taiseer Zaid – Reading in a Foreign Language, 1998
