Used college housing litigation as a data base to determine if a shift took place in campus housing after 1968 from constitutionalism to consumerism. Examined the influence of college housing assignments on retention of freshmen science majors, in a study of 103 students housed in proximity to other science majors and 43 housed at random. Results showed freshmen science majors housed near other science majors were more likely to be retained. (JAC)

Compared environmental aspects of academic and nonacademic living units in a college residence hall in a survey of 141 students. Results showed the academic units were more emotionally supportive, had a stronger degree of order and organization, and had members who spent more time together and studied more frequently. (JAC)
