Metcalf, Kim K. – 1995
The present study sought to expand upon earlier reviews of research by examining statistically the relative and comparative effects of several common forms of on-campus clinical experience in teacher education. Data were obtained from 60 studies which met a priori criteria for inclusion. Using aggregation techniques suggested by Rosenthal and…

Waddington, Tad S. H. – 1995
It is argued that mastery learning is one explanation for the documented differences in mathematics achievement between Japanese and American students. Given its emphasis on mastery at one stage before moving on to the next stage, and the potential accumulated benefits of this approach over time, mastery learning appears to be very similar to what…

Sexton, Thomas L.; And Others – 1997
The systematic study of counseling occupies a curious position; although a large quantity of research-based knowledge exists, practitioners continue to perceive research as irrelevant. Ways that research and practice can be systematically linked are explored in this book. The goal of the text is to present information on counseling as a process,…

The 1988 Hawkins-Stafford Elementary and Secondary School Improvement Amendments to Chapter 1 (now Title I) have enabled broad expansion of Title I schoolwide projects. Instructional research is synthesized, using categories specific and functional enough to provide guidance for classroom practice. Kulik, James A. – 1992
Meta-analytic reviews have shown that the effects of grouping programs depend on their features. Programs that entail only minor adjustment of course content for ability groups usually have little or no effect on student achievement. In some grouping programs, for example, school administrators group students by test scores and school records and…

Thompson, Bruce; Melancon, Janet G. – 1990
Effect sizes have been increasingly emphasized in research as more researchers have recognized that: (1) all parametric analyses (t-tests, analyses of variance, etc.) are correlational; (2) effect sizes have played an important role in meta-analytic work; and (3) statistical significance testing is limited in its capacity to inform scientific…

Fuchs, Lynn S.; Fuchs, Douglas – 1985
While the aptitude treatment interaction (ATI) approach to educational measurement emphasizes establishing salient learner characteristics, systematic formative evaluation provides ongoing evaluation for instructional program modification. Systematic formative evaluation appears more tenable than ATI for developing individualized instructional…
