The Impact of Workplace Bullying on Job Satisfaction in Higher Education
Marisol Loredo
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Texas A&M University - Kingsville
Workplace bullying is a significant problem that is often overlooked in higher education institutions. There is a gap in the literature regarding the impact of workplace bullying in higher education institutions on victims' job satisfaction. This mixed-methods study employed correlational research aimed to understand the effects of bullying in the higher education workplace. The Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R) instrument measured the employee exposure levels to bullying incidents and the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) instrument measured job satisfaction. The study also analyzed qualitative data to understand the types of negative behaviors and their impact(s) on the higher education workplace environment. Staff and faculty were recruited from public institutions of higher education in Texas. The results serve to inform college and university administrators how bullying in the workplace impacts job satisfaction and in effect, workplace culture, and research implications highlight what higher education institutions can do to diminish workplace bullying.
