Guidelines are provided for parents, teachers, and administrators interested in implementing a volunteer program in classrooms or in an entire school system. This guide is divided into seven sections that deal with: (1) benefits derived from participation in a parent involvement program; (2) 10 points to consider in beginning a volunteer program; (3) implementing a volunteer program; (4) step-by-step guide for training volunteers to perform specific activities; (5) activities for parent volunteers, utilizing desirable teaching behaviors; (6) rewards/appreciation for volunteers; and (7) evaluation of program. The implementation section presents a flow chart, an objectives list, recruitment ideas as well as a plan of action, tips for beginning a parent volunteer program, a list of types of volunteers, and orientation and training ideas. Appended are guidelines for the role of a volunteer; viewpoints of volunteers, parents, and teachers; the dos and don'ts in a parent volunteer program; and a list of available pamphlets.
