The experience of four University of California campuses (Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz) buying into a national survey is reported. Participation was cost-effective, enabled local results to be highlighted and reported in locally determined ways, and provided perspective on differences between local and nationwide conditions.…

A career experiences survey at the University of California Irvine is described including: the benefits and uses of its findings, administrative framework and strategies for approval, sampling, treatment of data, college related skills alumni have found useful, where to house a study of campus, and dissemination of findings. National student data reveal the inadequacies of college career counseling as students request more help earlier in their educational experience.
