The Vocational Assessment of Students with Handicapping Conditions. Definition and Programmatic Guidelines.
Suffolk County Board of Cooperative Educational Services 2, Patchogue, NY.
The brochure provides an overview of the components of vocational assessment used in many Cooperative Services Model (CSM) projects in New York State. Federal and state requirements for vocational assessment for students with handicapping conditions, the purpose of vocational assessment, and a suggested vocational assessment model are discussed. The assessment process is used to document student-specific information regarding aptitudes, abilities, interests, and vocational awareness to be considered in the development and implementation of the Individualized Education Program. The goal of the process is to foster the provision of appropriate educational services to students with handicapping conditions and a fuller realization of their academic and employment potential. Three levels of assessment are identified, each being progressively more comprehensive and time intensive. Appendices provide a directory of CSM projects and contact information for vocational rehabilitation and special education and training resource centers in New York State. (PB)
