Ashbrook, Peggy – Science and Children, 2007
Teachers can spark interest in a science topic by using "science tickets"--special objects offered to children as a way to transition to the science room or into a small group to do a science activity. Objects ranging from ordinary (shells, leaves, or sticks) to unusual (photos, crystals, or plastic worms) appeal to young children's curiosity and…

Heynen, Craig – Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, 2008
Visual representation and viewing are integral parts of language arts, communication, and physical education. Time constraints often limit a self-contained classroom teacher, or even the language arts teacher's ability to adequately address all areas of language arts. Therefore, it is important to include language arts in other content areas.…

Forsythe, Jere L.; Kelly, Margaret M. – Journal of Research in Music Education, 1989
Tests whether aural discrimination is significantly better when visual-spatial stimuli are paired with melodic phrases. Results suggest that the use of visual clues paired with melodies is generally an effective aid to aural discrimination among fourth-grade subjects. Recommends further research on the use of different visual stimuli. (LS)

Jackson, Margaret – 1993
Practical technical information and procedures for display are given in this book. Claggett, Fran; Brown, Joan – 1992
Based on the premise that the primary ways individuals make sense of the world is through observation, analysis, imagination, and feeling, this work suggests that through the use of graphics, students can experience these functions as they interact with reading and writing activities. Graphics encourage students to read more closely, make visual…

Stix, Andi – 1996
Teachers today are faced not only with oversized classes, but with students of varying abilities who differ in the ways they process information. The fostering of diverse styles of learning has been neglected in the teaching of mathematics. The use of journal writing as a vehicle for assessing students' understanding of material provides an…

Ellis, Hadyn D.; And Others – British Journal of Visual Impairment, 1988
Two visually impaired children, aged 8 and 10, appeared to have severe difficulty in recognizing faces. After assessment, it became apparent that only one had unusually poor facial recognition skills. After training, which included matching face photographs, schematic faces, and digitized faces, there was no evidence of any improvement.…
