Jansen, Malte; Lüdtke, Oliver; Robitzsch, Alexander – Journal of Educational Psychology, 2020
Academic self-concept (ASC) is characterized by the dual nature of stability and change. That is, students strive for consistency in their self-concept but also receive achievement feedback that leads to changes in ASC. Only a few previous studies have scrutinized the stability of ASC. The STARTS model (Stable, AutoRegressive Trait, and State)…

Estrada, Eduardo; Ferrer, Emilio; Shaywitz, Bennett A.; Holahan, John M.; Shaywitz, Sally E. – Developmental Psychology, 2018
Identifying change at the individual level is an important goal for researchers, educators, and clinicians. We present a set of statistical procedures for identifying individuals who depart from a normative change. Using Latent Change Scores models (LCS), we illustrate how the Individual Likelihood computed from a statistical model for change…

Raffington, Laurel; Prindle, John J.; Shing, Yee Lee – Developmental Psychology, 2018
Alleviating disadvantage in low-income environments predicts higher cognitive abilities during early childhood. It is less established whether family income continues to predict cognitive growth in later childhood or whether there may even be bidirectional dynamics. Notably, living in poverty may moderate income-cognition dynamics. In this study,…

van Loosbroek, Erik; Dirkx, Goedele S. M. A.; Hulstijn, Wouter; Janssen, Firmin – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2009
Our study focused on number transcoding in children. It investigated how 9-year-olds with and without arithmetical disabilities wrote Arabic digits after they had heard them as number words. Planning time before writing each digit was registered. Analyses revealed that the two groups differed not only in arithmetical abilities but also in verbal…

Emanuelsson, Ingemar; Svensson, Allan – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1990
Using data from the Swedish Individual Statistics Project, changes in intelligence among 13-year olds are documented over a 25-year period. The average spatial and reasoning intelligence has risen successively. A clear increase is found for verbal intelligence in the 1960s, with more irregular growth since then. (SLD)

Emanuelsson, Ingemar; And Others – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1993
Changes in verbal, spatial, and reasoning intelligence among Swedish 13-year olds were studied from 1960 to 1990. Rising verbal scores until 1980 have been followed by a decline to essentially the 1960 level. Spatial and reasoning results have risen continuously. Gender and social class differences are discussed. (SLD)

Svensson, Allan; And Others – 1997
As part of a continuing evaluation of the Swedish school system, changes in intelligence test scores from 1960 to 1995 were studied in relation to cohort, gender, and socioeconomic background. Changes in verbal, spatial, and reasoning ability were studied by comparing results on identical tests given to representative samples of Swedish…
