Gandhi and the Gita.
Mayle, Paul D.
These materials were developed for use in a "Survey of the Far East" course offered at Mount Vernon Nazarene College, Mount Vernon, Ohio. This curriculum project focuses on the "Bhagavad Gita," with reference to its influence on and use by Mahatma Gandhi. The "Gita" may be used as a text, or may be included on a required readings list. This project consists of three components. An outline describes the succession crisis that provided the background for the conflict at the heart of the "Gita." This outline may be copied for class hand-outs or made into a transparency, or both. (2) Selections are provided from each of the "Gita's" 18 books. These passages are intended to generate class discussion and are designed to be used as class hand-outs or transparencies or both. (3) A list of suggested journal questions or entries are offered as examples. The course for which this project was designed requires students to keep a journal. (4) A working bibliography of 13 items concludes the document. (AS)
