This academic year course based on the text, Challenges In Our Changing Urban Society by Goldberg, traces the development of cities and civilizations from their beginnings to the present. The course was written with the assistance of nineteen junior and senior high students and has the following general objectives: 1) to understand the origins and characteristics of cities past and present; 2) to understand the complexities of our urban society today in regard to its people's needs, geography, and government; 3) to understand the uniqueness and similarity of problems facing cities in the United States and the world today; and, 4) to understand the role of the individual citizen and government in urban life today. Each unit lists: cognitive and affective objectives, subject matter, activities, and teaching aids. In addition, reference books, audiovisual aids, and a suggested time sequence for the units are included in the appendices. (Author/AWW)
