A survey inventoried extant career development and job placement services offered for disabled students at New York State two-year colleges. Survey findings from 39 placement directors included (1) an assessment of the availability of 23 types of career development and job placement services for all students and those used by and/or with disabled students at the colleges, (2) indication of the percentage of total student enrollment served by the placement offices for the 1980-81 academic year and estimates of the number of disabled students served by the career development and job placement services, and (3) a profile of the degree of involvement of various college staff as well as career development and job placement personnel in career development activities and job placement of disabled students. Problems or barriers to effective service for disabled students were listed for three components of the career development and job placement process: the students themselves, job placement/employment opportunities, and difficulties inherent in the function of career development and job placement. Effective measures and solutions developed to address these problems were described. Placement directors also indicated types of further information they would like to have in assisting them to serve disabled students. (The instrument is appended.) (YLB)
