Chronicle of Higher Education, 1985
In a survey of 331 campuses, nearly two-thirds of the public institutions and 54 percent of the private ones reported gains in the number of applicants. The strongest gains were at public, doctorate-granting universities. (MLW)

After a comparison of institutional autonomy and government influence patterns in Australian and United States higher education institutions, it is concluded that variety in balances is possible and does exist. These balances can be altered to suit state needs and also free independent institutions for their own purposes. (MSE)

Average tenure of college presidents is seven years, a new study finds. From 1984-85 to 1991-92, about 14 percent of presidents left their job annually.
