The Effects of Advance Stop Lines and Sign Prompts on Pedestrian Safety in a Crosswalk on a Multilane Highway.
Van Houten, Ron
Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, v21 n3 p245-51 Fall 1988
Introduction of prompts in the form of specific signs and stop line bars at a crosswalk was designed to influence motorists to stop further back when yielding right-of-way to pedestrians, and resulted in an almost 80 percent reduction in motor vehicle-pedestrian conflicts at the selected location.
