The high positive or negative relationships between many of the sclaes enhance the use of the Basic Scales as aids in determining which specific interest factors contribute most to high or low scores on the empirical scales. Adults aged 50 to 88 years completed Holland's Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI). Generally VPI scores and high point codes were consistent with occupational codes but less consistent with the hobby code.
