Eighty-four third- and fourth-year medical students participated in three clerkship groups: one with no formal attention paid to interviewing skills, one using readings, and one using observations, videotaped interviewing, and readings with formal feedback. A study compared results of 2 teaching methods, traditional Socratic method (22 students) and a problem-based curriculum (35 students) in a University of Kentucky medical school surgery clerkship.
