Preschool Teachers' Science Teaching Practices: Earth and Space

This study aims to examine preschool teachers' earth and space science practices and the expected achievements of children in these practices. The research was conducted with a phenomenological pattern. Participants of the study consisted of 28 preschool teachers working in public schools and determined by the criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods. Research data were collected by using an interview form. The research form includes four questions regarding the purpose of the research. The data obtained in the study were analyzed by inductive content analysis method. As a result of the research, it was revealed that preschool teachers' performed demonstration, dramatization, art, experiment and question--answer regarding the sun theme; demonstration, art, dramatization, observation and expression for the moon theme; art, observation, demonstration and expression for the star theme and demonstrations, experiments, observations and educative play for the night-day theme. In addition, it has been revealed that scientific knowledge about science concepts is presented to children in practices for earth and space science. The aim of these practices is to provide basic scientific process skills to children.
