The Lived Experiences of School Counselors Enrolled in CACREP-Accredited Counselor Education and Supervision Doctoral Programs
Megan O. Thompson
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Regent University
School counseling is the second-largest counseling specialty, and the number of CACREP-accredited school counseling programs has grown by 14% between 2014-2018 (CACREP, 2022). Despite the continued growth of school counseling programs, a supply and demand concern regarding school counselor educators continues (Bernard, 2006; CACREP, 2022; Lambie & Vaccaro, 2011; Moran et al., 2022). The current study explored the lived experiences of school counselors enrolled in CACREP-accredited counselor education and supervision programs in the hope of adding to the limited body of literature surrounding school counselor educators. Additionally, this study aimed to provide insight into factors that may impact the recruitment and retention of school counselor educators. Eight participants shared their experiences through semi-structured interviews, and eight main themes emerged.
