Housing choices of unisex versus coed dorms made by freshmen and authorized by parents reveal that black women students differ substantially from black men and white men and women students in choosing unisex housing more than two to one over coed housing. A sample of 100 university living groups measured on 10 dimensions of their social environments was subjected to cluster analysis to develop an empirically based taxonomy of college residential groups.
