An Evaluation of General Studies Student Satisfaction with the Academic Advising Process

The purpose of this study was to evaluate how satisfied General Studies students were with the academic advising process who were enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies program at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Seventy-five participants who were enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies program at NSU were identified and sent an email through their online student account requesting their participation in the study. The email contained information about the study, the link to the electronic survey, and an informed consent form to participate in the study. Thirty-seven students responded, returned their permission forms, participated, and completed the twenty-four-question academic advising survey. A non-experimental survey quantitative research design was used. The survey included five demographic questions, two communication methods questions, and seventeen academic advisor satisfaction questions. The results of the study support the conclusion that the academic advising survey was an effective instrument to use to evaluate General Studies student satisfaction with their academic advisor.
