Alexander, Ralph A.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
A comparison of measures of association for 2x2 data was carried out by computer analysis. For each of 1,539 tables, 14 measures of association were calculated and evaluated. A measure based on the odds-ratio (Chambers, 1982) was most accurate in capturing the rho underlying a majority of the tables. (Author/BW)

Alexander, Ralph A. – Personnel Psychology, 1988
Addresses issue of range enhancement effects on correlations, asserting that, while adding to or deleting from sample can affect variance and correlation in sample, increases or decreases in individual differences in intact sample resulting from such factors as history, maturation, training, and experience will not necessarily affect correlations.…

DeShon, Richard P.; Alexander, Ralph A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
James's second-order approximation for testing the equality of "k" independent means under heterogeneity of variance may be adapted to the test for the equality of "k" independent regression slopes under heterogeneity of error variance. Performance of the approximation is evaluated and availability of computer programs is…

Alexander, Ralph A.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This article presents an improved approximation formula for the problem of correcting correlation coefficients that arise from range-restricted distributions on either or both the independent and dependent variable. (BS)

Alexander, Ralph A.; Govern, Diane M. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1994
A new approximation is proposed for testing the equality of "k" independent means in the face of heterogeneity of variance. Monte Carlo simulations show that the new procedure has nearly nominal Type I error rates and Type II error rates that are close to those produced by James's second-order approximation. (SLD)
