Muma, John R. – 1974
Discussed is a procedure being developed for the clinical assessment of children's phonological patterns. Reviewed are recent developments in the psycholinguistic/sociolinguistic literature which support the basic criteria for the new procedure (such as the provision for child phonology rather than adult phonology). The significance of contextual…

Silverman, Franklin H. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1972
Five studies were reported in which the magnitude of the influence of word length upon the loci of instances of disfluency in the oral reading of 132 stutterers and 141 nonstutterers was investigated. (Author/DB)

McReynolds, Leija V.; Huston, Kay – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1971
Thirteen distinctive features of English phonology were used in studying misarticulating children's feature systems in comparison to the English system, and for a traditional articulation evaluation of phoneme articulation. Results showed children's feature errors consistent across phonemes containing the feature, and misarticulations only…

Jones, David L.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1990
This study investigated effect of production time on the perception of disordered nasalization in 20 children (ages 6-18) with cleft palate. Ten judges used direct magnitude estimates to rate severity of disordered nasalization. Results indicated that reducing the production time did not change perceptible nasalization. (Author/DB)

Tyler, Ann A.; Saxman, John H. – Applied Psycholinguistics, 1991
Speech sound production changes occurring during acquisition of initial voice contrast by phonologically disordered children were compared with those occurring with normal children by analyzing target stop productions along the temporal measure of voice onset time (VOT). Phonologically disordered subjects displayed different patterns of voice…

MARTONY, J. – 1966
A COMPARISON OF SEGMENT FEATURES IN THE SPEECH CHAIN OF THREE DEAF-BORN BOYS WITH THOSE OF THREE NORMAL-HEARING BOYS REVEALS THAT THE DEAF-BORN HAVE SPEECH PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH A LACK OF SYNCHRONY BETWEEN ARTICULATION AND PHONATION. IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO GROUPS (BOTH REPEATING THE SAME SWEDISH SENTENCES), A…

Dworkin, James P. – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1978
Examined were protrusive lingual force and lingual diadochokinetic rates in 45 normal and 45 front-lisping speakers (7-12-years old). Results revealed that normal speaking Ss scored significantly higher on lingual force and diadochokinetic rate measurements, challenging the theory that lisping is purely a functional articulatory disorder. Pollock, Karen E.; Schwartz, Richard G. – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1988
The relationship between syllabic structure and segmental development was examined longitudinally (from ages 3:5 to 7:3) in a child who had lived in a Korean orphanage his first two years. Analyses revealed gradual increases in complexity and diversity of syllable structures and positional preferences for sounds within these forms. (Author/DB)
