This work focuses on an analysis of the contributions of István Mészáros' bibliographic works to the understanding of the metabolic rift between humankind and nature and their connections with Critical Environmental Education. With this report, the research seeks for intellectual elements that can contribute to a reasonable critique of the educational field. Starting from a methodological approach, the most appropriate method for the bibliographic analysis that the present article treats is the materialistic dialectic itself. The document then gives comments on Mészáros' principal works on the unsustainability of the production system of capital in all its forms. In his analysis of the environmental problem the planet faces today, the philosopher points out that the intrinsic need for expansion of the system, relationship between conflict and war to the reproduction of capitalism, segregation of labor and capital, make the system unsustainable. Hence, Mészáros proposes a type of education that goes beyond capital as a philosophical proposal for the area under analysis.
