Units of study to help secondary students learn about the aging process are provided. There are five units. Major concepts taught in the first unit, "Chronological Aging," are that aging is a continual process, that generational cycles ensure survival, and that species depend on each other for survival. In the second unit, students learn that physical aging is variable and results in changes and that genetics and environment affect the aging process. Unit III focuses on "Sociocultural Aging." Social factors that form attitudes toward aging behavior, factors determining age options, and older people in different cultures are studied. In Unit IV, "Psychological Aging," students learn that people can learn and change throughout their lives. "Attitudes and Aging" is the theme of the concluding unit; major concepts taught are that people have different roles throughout their lives, that planning for anticipated changes is helpful, and that people's extended life experiences are valuable for others. For each unit learner objectives, activities, and resources are suggested. (RM)
