Males and females read descriptions of a male or female worker who succeeded or failed as a manager or secretary. Subjects responded with impressions of the worker, causal attributions for his/her success or failure, and evaluations of the likelihood of a number of positive and negative consequences for the worker. A study of desire for, frequency of, and attitudes towards extramarital involvement (EMI) was conducted, using 100 male and female college students ranging in age from 19 to 55. Predictive factors other than desire, frequency, and attitude were number of marriages, and the social desirability scale. (Author)

Eating behaviors of 34 overweight and 37 nonoverweight male and female customers of a quick-service diner were observed for differences in speed of eating as a function of weight, sex, and type of meal selected. Overweight take fewer bites and chews. (Author)

Using data obtained from over 2,000 college students, subscales of the PRF ANDRO scale are shown to be independent, reliable, minimally related to socially desirable responding, and substantially related to the corresponding subscales of Bem's Sex Role Inventory and to major personality dimensions. Individual differences in fear of success were measured for 98 female and 33 male college students. For females, fear of success was significantly related to performance decrement on masculine but not feminine tasks, with the relationship accounting for approximately 6 percent of the variance. Tested the California Psychological Inventory Socialization scale's dimensionality on three groups of male and female, criminal or noncriminal subjects. The fit of a one-factor model for all three groups was tested in a simultaneous factor analysis for several populations, and good fit was obtained. (Author)

The present research compared disabled persons' self-ratings on a variety of personality traits and attitudes with able-bodied self-ratings on the same items. Analyses indicated disabled persons perceive themselves in much the same way able-bodied persons perceive themselves. (Author)

A statewide sample of 234 individuals, 70 years of age or older, was employed to assess the nature and prominence of intimate friendships in the social world of aged men and women. There was little sexual differentiation in the characteristics of intimate friendships in late life. (Author)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of the Career Maturity Inventory (CMI) as a measure of vocational maturity. The findings indicate that scores on the CMI incrementally increase by grade level. However, the rate and level of this increase is influenced by sex, school, and curriculum effects. (Author)

The present study addressed the question of whether persons' implicit personality theories include the notion that the possession of masculine and feminine characteristics tend to preclude each other so that the two clusters of attributes are perceived to be negatively correlated. This study examined, for 221 black and white male and female college students, relationships between the motive to avoid success and: (a) sex and race; (b) congruency, consistency, and differentiation of occupational choice; and (c) occupational aspirations. Results showed a significant sex difference on the motive to avoid success. (Author)
