This study of workers' satisfaction with their supervisors found, contrary to popular belief, that female supervisors received significantly higher scores on most of the variables considered. Psychological well-being was explored in a sample of 309 newly separated men and women aged 20-79. Consistent with hypothesized differences, the men were significantly less happy than the women, and older respondents reported greater unhappiness than the younger. (Author)

This study tries to show that a theory of coalition formation based solely on sex is inadequate. Results indicated that both the frequency and the pattern of coalitions formed were significantly influenced by locus of control; thus the findings lend support to the basic reasoning of the researchers. The distribution of males and females on a job, occupational classification, and job content were examined as predictors of job sex stereotypes in two studies. Results indicate that the base rate of males and females in the job is the most important predictor of job sextypes. (Author)

Although researchers have found differences in male and female respondents when investigating faculty and staff members in university decision making, no one has directly compared the interest and involvement of men and women. Tests the utility of two models for explaining contraceptive use by sexually active women (N=391). Significant relationships were found between use and permissive premarital standards and standard-behavior consistency. A survey of 344 college students revealed 36.71 percent reported having used minor tranquilizers. Among those who acquired tranquilizers by their own prescription, the vast majority used them from others' prescriptions or black market sources, used them for pleasure. (Author)

Undergraduates (130 males, 112 females) completed the Sensation Seeking Scale (SSS) and the S-R Inventory of General Trait Anxiousness (S-R GTA). The intercorrelations among the five scales from the SSS and the four scales from the S-R GTA were computed and compared. Findings were consistent with rational and theoretical notions. (Author)

Serial rote learning was examined as a function of sex, verbal ability, and stimulus presentation rate among 64 individuals aged 60-79 years. At the fast pacing speed, the men with average verbal skills produced fewer responses and performed less well than their female counterparts. (Author)

Female subjects were randomly assigned to an n Power arousal group or control group. Analysis of TAT protocols revealed that n Power was aroused in women as successfully as the procedures had been with men. Subjects' self-ratings also demonstrated that subjects felt stronger in the experimental group. (NG)
