Problem-solving and creativity measures were administered to 127 gifted New York City school children from grades 4-6, in an attempt to relate these cognitive variables to affective traits of locus of control, self-esteem, and tolerance of ambiguity. Results indicated that both gender and previous experience have significant effects. Gender appeared to have a less substantial effect than previous experience, being more noteworthy for the similarities manifest between males and females than the few differences observed. Responses from 331 elderly mothers and 261 elderly fathers were compared on four indexes of filial responsibility expectations with significant gender differences being found in two of the four measures. The findings indicate that women in this cohort tend to expect more filial support than do their male counterparts. (Author)
