Schab, Fred – Journal of the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors, 1970
A study among black and white high school students in northeast Georgia indicates that while marriage is a matter of anticipation, it is regarded in different ways among the different sexes, races, age and achievement groups. Blinn, Lynn M.; Pike, Gary – Adolescence, 1989

Smith, Thomas Ewin – Social Forces, 1992
Collected data on 1,747 seventh and ninth graders to study why girls lag behind in science achievement, particularly during adolescence. Analyzed the effects of gender, year in school, mothers' employment, and parental separation. Found the female disadvantage is larger among those with separated parents, regardless of age. (KS)

Newcomer, Susan; Udry, J. Richard – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1987
Interviewed white virgin junior high school students in 1980 and again in 1982. Found effects of parental marital status on sexual behavior and on age-graded deviance, suggesting general loss of parental control. Control loss was associated with disruption of two-parent household for boys and with the state of living in a fatherless household for…

Kandel, Denise B.; And Others – Youth and Society, 1984
