Used two subscales of the Jenkins Activity Survey to examine the relationship of self-actualization and self-esteem to Type A behavior in 68 students. Results showed self-actualization and self-esteem were related to only the Involvement subscale. This result is obscured when only total JAS scale scores are used. (JAC)

Studied 46 alcoholics one year upon discharge from a residential treatment program based on transactional analysis. Results showed 25 were abstinent and the other 21 were not drinking heavily. Analysis suggested that the abstinent persons had somewhat higher self-esteem and were slightly freer in expression of feelings. (JAC)

Investigated the relationship between depressive affect and self-actualization in gifted adolescents (N=248). Found that gifted students who were not self-actualizing types were more depressed; and guilt, low self-esteem, learned helplessness, and cognitive difficulty were important symptoms.
