TCAP Achievement and Leadership Effectiveness: Examining the Drop in MSCS District Student TCAP Achievement Scores and Its Leadership
Felicia Dennis
ProQuest LLC, D.B.A. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
Much research has been conducted on teacher retention, student absences, and suspensions. The results of this research have been shaping the education of primary students. Through standardized or achievement tests, instructional leaders determine each student's level of intellectual knowledge. This knowledge is determined through reading, math, language arts, social studies, and science. When test scores are low, educational leaders are responsible for investigating the cause of the low-test scores, evaluating the issue, and developing solutions. There has been a drop in test scores in the Memphis Shelby County School District, in which components of this cause are many. The researcher used a quantitative approach to test three theories to determine if there are correlations and regressions between teacher retention, student absences, and student suspensions against achievement test scores of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and if either could be a predictor of student test scores. The study's results proved that there were weak to strong relationships between the dependent and three independent variables to achieve test scores and that neither component could be used as a predictor.
