Agnew, N. H. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1972
Suggests that adequate attention should be given to lattice imperfections in teaching solid state chemistry. Some concepts to be included in such a program are explained. An experiment to be performed by undergraduates on photomicrography is described in detail. (PS)

Spitler, M. T. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Photochemical data are presented to indicate how use of sensitizing dyes extends the spectral range to which the substrate semiconductor is sensitive. Data demonstrate that specific energetic requirements exist for a dye to be an effective sensitizer. Also shows how photooxidation is increased by increasing surface concentration of the dye. (JN)

Brochu, Michel – Science Dimension, 1983
In August, 1981, National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched Dynamics Explorer 1 into polar orbit equipped with three cameras built to view the Northern Lights. The cameras can photograph aurora borealis' faint light without being blinded by the earth's bright dayside. Photographs taken by the satellite are provided. (JN)

Leming, Charles W.; Hastings, Orestes Patterson, III – American Journal of Physics, 1980
Described is the phasor method of superposition of waves. The intensity pattern from a system of microwave sources is calculated point by point on a plane corresponding to a film emulsion, and then printed and directly converted to a hologram for 3-cm microwaves. Calculations, construction, and viewing of holograms are included. (Author/DS)

Hickey, F. R. – American Journal of Physics, 1979
Investigates the "photographic" appearance of a cube moving at relativistic speeds, and shows that it depends upon whether the camera is held fixed with the optic axis perpendicular to the direction of motion or panned to follow the cube as it moves. (Author/GA)

Pozzer-Ardenghi, Lilian; Roth, Wolff-Michael – Science Education, 2005
In some contexts, a photograph may be worth a thousand words. Previous research revealed a dialectical character of photographs: they simultaneously lack determinacy and exhibit an excess of meaning. The purpose of this study was to understand how, under this condition, high school students interpret photographs that were accompanied by different…

National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Washington, DC. Educational Programs Div. – 1975
In this NASA publication, the technology behind the art of high-altitude surveying is explained in language understood by high school students. The principles behind ground-based surveys are first explained, then several diagrams are utilized in the explanation of photographic surveys. Additional information is provided concerning the use of…
