The college health professional has a significant role to play with regard to alcohol use and the college student, including an understanding of biomedical, psychological, and social factors, and should provide health education, individual counseling, and treatment for those students who risk becoming alcoholics. The school nurse has a crucial role in the provision of school health services. This statement describes the school nurse as a member of the school health services team and its relation to children with special health care needs. Recommendations for the professional preparation and education of school nurses also are provided.

This investigation examined the incidence and types of health-related problems of migrant children as identified by school health medical personnel. Results indicated 615 of the 1,000 children in the sample had physical, visual, dental, auditory, immunization, or nutritional problems. Implications are discussed. (Author/MT)

The relationships among health status, family and socioeconomic factors, and academic achievement were examined to discover the effect of health status on academic achievement. Health problems were found to be moderately related to academic variables. Results are discussed. (Author/DF)
