Describes the development of a taxonomy of student problems seen at university and college counseling centers. Staff counselors at 503 institutions of higher education across the nation were sent a total of four surveys. Results suggest a reasonable taxonomy of problems specific to students might be constructed to encompass frequent and low-incidence problems. (KW)
