Kilmann, Peter R.; Howell, Robert J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
This study compared the outcome of external and internal scorers on the locus of control scale and considered the association between internal-external orientation and direct and nondirect marathon group therapy. The findings suggest that internals are better therapeutic risks than externals, regardless of a direct or nondirect therapist…

Friedman, Meredith L.; Dies, Robert R. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Results from this study showed that external subjects provided with counseling and systematic desensitization felt that they retained too much control of therapy, while internals generally indicated an optional amount of control in counseling. (Author)

Garza, Raymond T.; Ames, Russell E., Jr. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Using Rotter's (1966) I-E scale, data were gathered on 204 college students. The findings not only contradict the sterotype that Mexican-Americans are fatalistic and controlled by external forces but they seem to suggest that their culture actually contributes to a greater perception of internal control. Murray, Howard B.; Staebler, Barbara K. – Journal of School Psychology, 1974
The major finding of the study was that both male and female students, regardless of their locus of control, gained more on the achievement measure under internal teachers than under external teachers. (Author)

Hochreich, Dorothy J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
Two hundred college students, most of whom had been administered the Rotter I-E and trust scales prior to the experiment, were assigned to testing groups. Findings indicate that clear sex-role stereotypes exist with regard to both locus of control and trust, and that the stereotypes are shared by subjects of both sexes. (Author)

Wolk, Stephen; Kurtz, John – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
Data were analyzed from a sample of elderly males and females to ascertain level of expectancy for control as well as the relationship between internal control and adaptive behavior. Assessments were made with the Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, and indices of developmental adjustment, active involvement, and emotional adaptation.…

Deysach, Robert E.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
Two studies are reported that examined the extent to which job candidates were able to modify their responses on Rotter's (1966) Internal-External Locus of Control (I-E) Scale in accord with various instructional and situational constraints. Results show care should be exercised when utilizing the I-E scale in employee selection procedures.…

Weigly, George P.; Russell, David L. – 1974
This study explored the relationship between locus of control, Ss skill/chance perceptions, and verifiability of feedback on Ss decision time in a letter elimination task. Ss were 72 male and 72 female undergraduates, divided into groups of internals and externals based on results from Rotter's I-E scale. In a letter elimination task, several…

Murray, Howard B.; And Others – 1971
The study explores the effect of the teacher's personality on the evaluation of students. The personality concept applied here, internal vs. external control of reinforcement, has evolved out of Rotter's social learning theory; internals (I's) tend to feel that they control their own destiny while externals (E's) tend to see forces beyond their…

Bolen, Larry M.; Torrance, E. Paul – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1978
Junior college students were randomly assigned to dyadic or individual test conditions and scored on the Unusual Uses Activity of the TTCT. Analyses showed dyads more flexible and original than individuals; no significant differences due to locus of control; and males more flexible in creative functioning. (Author/SJL)

Bartsch, Karl; Hackett, Gail – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1979
Assessed the effectiveness of an established two-credit course in personal-career decision making. Results indicate that experimental participants altered their locus of control toward internality; that they were considerably more articulate than controls in describing career concepts; and that they had taken more action toward resolving their…

Keller, John M.; Pugh, Richard C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
Correlations between Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) Control of Reinforcement Scale and the Omnibus Personality Inventory (OPI) were predicted based on previous research and a theoretical expectation of a relationship between I-E and adjustment. These findings have implications for counseling and further research using the I-E variable. (Author)

Bhagat, Rabi S.; Chassie, Marilyn B. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1978
The present research was an attempt to examine the role of task-specific self-esteem and locus of control in the differential prediction of academic performance, program satisfaction, and personal life satisfaction. Results support Korman's theory on task-specific esteem and Rotter's theory on locus of control. (Author)
