Hall, Rob; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1976
Multidimensional scaling configurations were obtained for the same set of 11 stimuli using data from two different judgmental tasks completed by the same group of subjects. The procedure was felt to be a way of obtaining useful information regarding environmental perception. (RH)

Weinstein, Neil David – Environment and Behavior, 1976
This paper discusses a number of statistical and interpretive problems that arise in the analysis of complex, multivariate data common in the study of man-environment relations. A multiple regression model of landscape preferences is analyzed in detail. (RH)

Baum, Andrew; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1974
Findings of a field study in which subjects drank more often from a screened water fountain than from one without such barriers. Generally confirmed the hypothesis that the presence of architectural constructs which reduce the impact of one individual on another will moderate reaction to invasion of personal space. (DT)

Smith, Geoffrey C.; Alderdice, David – Environment and Behavior, 1979
This study investigates the behavioral responses of urban and semirural residents to a newly initiated Canadian national park environmental policy. The policy involved the reduction of service facilities within the park and a concomitant emphasis on the park's natural environment. (BT)

Kaplan, Rachel – Environment and Behavior, 1974
Ten wilderness survival program participants responded to questionnaires before starting the program, immediately afterwards, and several months later; responses were compared to those of twenty-five nonparticipants. Results suggested that participants were enthusiastic upon returning and showed some longer-term benefits. Interest patterns and…

Herzog, Thomas R.; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1976
The experience of the urban environment was studied in terms of how it is categorized, what people's preferences are, and the extent to which complexity and familiarity can account for these preferences. College students rated urban scenes under three methods of scene presentation. Results are reported. (RH)
Descriptors: Environment, Research, Research Methodology, Urban Areas

Beck, Robert J.; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1973
Discusses research on man-environment relations and initiates the process of formulating a research paradigm for studying environmental moves and readjustments. Uses a renovated academic center as a specimen case. (JR)

Procedures for Investigating the Effect of Light on Impression: Simulation of a Real Space by Slides

Hendrick, Clyde; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1977
This study assessed whether slides of lighting arrangements could adequately simulate results from real space. Data indicated that in many important respects the results for the slides matched those for the real space for ratings on semantic differential scales, but that less consistent results were obtained for multidimensional scaling.…

Driver, B. L.; Knoph, Richard C. – Environment and Behavior, 1977
Results of exploratory research on relationships between personality characteristics (measured by Jackson's Personality Research Form), choice of recreation activities engaged in actively, frequency of participation in those activities, and the desired consequences expected from that participation are reported. (Editors/BT)

Craik, Kenneth H.; McKechnie, George E. – Environment and Behavior, 1977
This article is the editor's introduction to this special issue concerning personality and the environment. Topics reviewed include: personality assessment, assessment of environmental dispositions, the domain of environmental acts, personal disposition, interactionism, and the development of the concept of personality in ecological terms. (BT)
Descriptors: Behavior, Behavioral Science Research, Environment, Models

Kammann, Richard; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1979
To test the hypothesis that residents of larger cities are less helpful to strangers than are residents of small towns, three New Zealand towns with varying population densities were studied for helping behavior. The research confirms that population density is a reliable predictor of non-helping behavior. (RE)

Cohen, Sheldon; Lezak, Anne – Environment and Behavior, 1977
The effects of environmental stress on the processing of task-irrelevant cues of a social nature were examined. While noise did not affect memory for the task-relevant cues, task-irrelevant cues, regardless of whether they depicted calm or distressed persons, were remembered less well under noise than under quiet. Althoff, Phillip; Greig, William H. – Environment and Behavior, 1974
This article is based on an analysis of the perceptions and preferences of elite groups concerning environmental pollution control policy making. Results showed that although the groups agreed that present methods were inadequate, they were, nevertheless, unable to agree upon the nature of a future policy-making system. (MA)
