Does the Clinic Work? An Investigation of Remedial Reading Instruction and Pupil Achievement.
Bartelo, Dennise M.
A study examined the success of a university based reading clinic conducted in the summer of 1979. Twenty-one students, in grades two through nine, participated in the clinic. Each student was pretested using the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test (WRMT) and then assigned to one of four graduate students. An individual educational plan was prepared for each student and lessons were designed to emphasize specific reading skills. The students were tested at the end of the month-long session using an alternate form of the WRMT. The majority of individual scores on the WRMT posttest indicated some reading skill achievement gains, specifically in the areas of word identification, letter identification, word attack, word comprehension, and passage comprehension.
