Diem, Sarah; Pinto, Ransford
Equity Assistance Center Region III, Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center
The purpose of this Equity Brief is to examine the ongoing need for Local Education Agencies to work in conjunction with community stakeholders to develop comprehensive strategies to increase racial and socioeconomic diversity in schools. Research indicates that all students benefit from learning within racially and socioeconomically diverse environments. Students of today must be prepared to enter a multi-racial and economically diverse society and thus, when schools provide students with the opportunity to learn in a diverse setting they are preparing their students for life. Additionally, students learn acceptance and trust, appreciation for the culture of others and have high academic outcomes as a result of school diversity.
