Library Program Evaluation: The AASL Planning Guide
Hardin, Rebecca M.
School Library Monthly, v28 n8 p11-13 May-Jun 2012
The word "evaluation" often strikes fear in people, but the author is different. She has always been a person who thought of evaluation, in any form, as a way to make her better and help her strive for excellence. So naturally when her library supervisor announced at a meeting that they were going to do the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) program self-evaluation, she was excited. With the AASL self-evaluation rubric, she was going to have a way to judge how she was doing and plan how to make the library better. She wants her library to be the best, and the only way to make that happen is to figure out where improvement is necessary. The AASL Planning Guide is designed to assist librarians as they work through the rubric. They can then use the results along with the "Building the Learning Environment" chapter of "Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs" to create a plan to improve the library program.
