Connections and Corrections in the Digital Age: Criminal Justice Student Success at Tribal Colleges and Universities
DiMare, Cara
Tribal College Journal of American Indian Higher Education, v34 n2 Win 2022
The experiences of the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College (KBOCC) and Sitting Bull College (SBC) criminal justice (CJ) programs represent a general shift toward robust remoting in the CJ field. While these institutions offer a small sample size, the complications associated with the emergence into digital technology are amplified at tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). Accordingly, a closer look at these two TCU CJ programs may provide insight into shifts in the broader CJ field. These institutions have taken steps toward enabling the success and enhanced preparation of students for shifts plaguing the CJ profession more generally through two steps: (1) creating baseline remoting skills, and (2) adapting to individual learning styles and needs. These two steps, which has led to student success in robust remoting in these two CJ programs, may translate well into the criminal justice industry at large.
