This study was designed to explore the process of threat assessment training at schools in North Texas. Using a guided interview protocol, eight administrators with an array of experiences were selected from various districts in the North Texas area to gain multiple viewpoints on the perception of the threat assessment training process and perceived levels of effectiveness. The study investigated participant perceptions of which training aspects were helpful and which were not and also explored perceptions of how the training could be adjusted to improve training and prevent school violence. Data was collected through one-to-one recorded interviews (when allowed) and through note taking. Nine themes emerged from the study, which pertained to varied training and resources, suggestions for improvement, effectiveness of training, and the need for stakeholder training. As school violence patterns continue, these findings may provide information for school district leaders and stakeholders regarding training practices, perceived training effectiveness, and possible ideas for continuous improvement. The study concludes with recommendations for future research which will further influence the threat assessment training process.
