Pre-Veterinary Medical Grade Point Averages as Predictors of Academic Success in Veterinary College.

Julius, Marcia F.; Kaiser, Herbert E. – Journal of Veterinary Medical Education, 1978
A five-year longitudinal study was designed to find the best predictors of academic success in veterinary school at Kansas State University and to set up a multiple regression formula to be used in selecting students. The preveterinary grade point average was found to be the best predictor. (JMD)

The effect of increased enrollment is considered on: the provision of individual attention to students, degree of course rigorousness, student evaluation, and test construction. Results from Ohio State University suggest no evidence that increased enrollment has an adverse effect on scholarship. (LBH)

Data include: socioeconomic background, motivation for studying veterinary medicine, views on veterinary curriculum, and professional activities. Data presented shows a progressive reduction in North American veterinary student attrition from 12.8 percent in 1966 to 3.1 percent in 1974. The prediction is that with improved selection procedures and time-variable instructional programs the rate will drop and stabilize at approximately two percent. (JT)
