Yi-Yin Ko; Connor A. Goodwin; Lauren Ream; Grace Rebber
Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, v116 n12 p923-930 2023
Effective teaching requires enjoyable classroom tasks aimed at promoting students' learning of mathematics meaningfully, and previous research has demonstrated that the use of origami activities in mathematics classrooms can help achieve that goal. In this article, the authors describe their "LOVE MATH" one-straight-cut letter origami activities with corresponding PowerPoint slides and worksheets for middle-school students, which they believe have the potential to increase middle-school students' interest and engagement with mathematics, develop students' understanding of symmetry and geometric transformations, invite students to participate in productive struggle, promote students' critical thinking, and access the mathematics through various problem-solving methods.
