The social development of 59 kibbutz-reared five-year-olds, whose attachments to mothers, fathers, and metaplott were assessed when they were 11 to 14 months old, was investigated. Delay times were measured under several conditions of self-imposed gratification delay for preschool children. The cognitive, self-regulatory, and coping competence of the children at adolescence was significantly predicted by delay times in the no-strategy condition with exposed rewards, but not in the suggested strategy condition. College entrance examination scores, sophomore grade point average (GPA), and GPA for prerequisite courses were compared for 483 accounting, management, and economics students. All correlated with academic success, but test scores were less significant than GPAs. Only GPAs demonstrated significant results in predicting academic difficulty. (SK)
