Ward, G. Robert; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
For each of four subsamples of Olympic-quality athletes--14 discus, 8 hammer, 11 javelin, and 12 shotput measures of 19 personality constructs yielded only two statistically significant validity coefficients (out of 76 possible significant indices) in the prediction of average length of throw. (Author/JKS)

Young, John W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
An investigation was conducted to determine whether differential predictive validity, as detected in previous studies, exists for a recent sample of 3,703 college students. Results confirmed that the phenomenon still exists. For women, but not minorities, the difference in predictive validity appears related to course selection. (SLD)

DeMauro, G. – Language Testing, 1992
Several analyses are presented on the relationships among the Test of Spoken English, Test of Written English, and Test of English as a Foreign Language. The multivariate prediction of each test from the scores on the others is very accurate; variances with two prominent factors may relate to specific cognitive test-taking skills. (eight…

Dolgener, Forrest A.; And Others – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1994
This study attempted to validate the Rockport Fitness Walking Test (RFWT) in college students and develop prediction equations if the RFWT proved invalid. Researchers compared measured maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and VO2max predicted from previous equations. The original RFWT overpredicted VO2max in college students and thus is invalid for that…

Leonard, Faith C. – Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, 1991
Data from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R), grade point average (GPA) after 2 semesters of full-time enrollment, and selected student characteristics were compared for 49 learning-disabled college students. WAIS-R results were not generally predictive of academic success, although Comprehension and Similarities subtests…

Blennerhassett, Lynne; And Others – American Annals of the Deaf, 1994
Investigation of criterion-related validity of test scores of 107 deaf residential adolescents found concurrent validity between the Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) and the Performance IQ of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised, using both hearing and deaf norms. Predictive validity was supported by correlations between the SPM…

Garcia-Ros, Rafael; Perez-Gonzalez, Francisco; Hinojosa, Eugenia – School Psychology International, 2004
The main purpose of this study is to analyse the factorial structure, psychometric properties and predictive capacity for academic achievement of a scale designed to evaluate the time management skills of Spanish high school students. An adaptation of the Time Management Questionnaire was presented to two samples of 350 Spanish high school…
Descriptors: Measures (Individuals), Psychometrics, Time Management, Factor Analysis

Wolf, Fredric M.; And Others – 1983
The predictive and incremental validity of the New Medical College Admission Test (New MCAT) Science Problems Subtest was examined with a sample of over 165 medical students. Criterion measures were National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Part I (basic science) and Part II (clinical science) performance. The Science Problems subscore is derived…

Benton, Sidney E.; Jerrolds, Bob W. – 1982
Eighty-six North Georgia College students in four graduate sections of educational research taught by the same instructor were administered the Attitudes toward Educational Research Scale at the beginning and the end of the quarter. Attitude posttest scores were significantly higher than pretest scores. Undergraduate grade point averages (GPAs),…

Kogan, Nathan; Pankove, Ethel – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1974
Studied the relationships of assessments of divergent-thinking performance and intellectual aptitude at fifth and tenth grade to nonacademic attainments assessed with a biographical questionnaire in the tenth grade and upon graduation. (Author)

Taylor, Nancy E.; Blum, Irene H. – 1981
A battery of four reading readiness assessment tasks was administered to 267 first grade students to determine if the tasks predicted reading achievement as well as the Metropolitan Readiness Test (MRT). The four tasks, which were the best predictors in a previous study of seven readiness tasks, were the aural word boundaries task, the…

MITZEL, HAROLD E. – 1967
IN DISCUSSING A RELIABLE AND VALID PRESERVICE PREDICTOR OF TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS, IT IS NOTED THAT MOST TEACHER SELECTION PROCEDURES DEPEND SOLELY ON PAPER AND PENCIL MEASURES OF VERBAL AND SYMBOL MANIPULATION ABILITY. THEREFORE, A NEW MULTIVARIABLE EVALUATION PROCEDURE IS OFFERED. IT CONSISTS OF (1) DEVELOPING EMPIRICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF CLASSROOM…

Crooks, Terence J. – 1980
Six widely used college admissions variables and four course-specific measures (tests of entering mathematical skills and physics knowledge, and indexes of previous study of mathematics and physics) were correlated with final marks for 495 students in an introductory college physics course. The college admissions variables included scores on…

Askov, Warren; And Others – 1971
The predictive validity and the general usability of a battery of 10 tests reported by de Hirsch, Jansky, and Langford, the de Hirsch Predictive Index Tests of reading failure, were examined.
