Until the 1950s, American university faculties were relatively conservative in their politics. Today, however, faculties at elite institutes are overwhelmingly liberal and generally critical of society. We must create more room for nonideological, reasoned scholarship and the restoration of legitimate authority and community purpose. (KH)
