Response towards coeducational physical education has been varied due to individual teacher perceptions and administrative support. Many programs may fail due to the dysfunctional nature of change in schools. The use of ability grouping and administrative commitment is suggested as a means of improving sex-integrated physical education. (DF)

Sex role stereotyping in physical education is viewed in historical perspective. Though Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was intended to provide equal opportunities for males and females to develop skills in a full range of activities, its implementation has not eradicated the underlying sex stereotypes. Reports on a study of school subject preference among 566 male and 567 female students in both single-sex and coeducational British secondary schools.
