Shriberg, Lawrence D. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1972
Five experienced articulation judges scored the tape-recorded responses of four first and second grade children with articulatorily deviant /r/s under two response arrangement conditions. (Author)

Fraunfelker, Barbara S. – Developmental Psychology, 1971
Studies the effect of phonetic compatibility upon verbal learning and concludes that it is a task variable of considerable magnitude. (WY)
Descriptors: Articulation (Speech), Grade 1, Grade 3, Paired Associate Learning

Hardcastle, W. J. – Language Sciences, 1989
Explores the impact of new technological developments on three major areas of current interest to students of the language sciences: objective phonetic descriptions of speech sounds, the phenomenon of coarticulation, and improved methods of diagnosis and assessment of speech disorders. (39 references) (Author/OD)

Lewis, J.; And Others – Journal of Phonetics, 1975
Sentences were read by six informants to determine the presence or absence of /n/ in /nth/ sequences. The sentences contained seven different levels of juncture with /nth/ occurring in word final position, intervocalically, and across word boundaries, among other places. Dental coarticulation was not hindered by most junctures. (SC)

PETERSON, GORDON E. – 1967
IN THIS ARTICLE THE NATURE OF THE DISCIPLINE OF SPEECH SCIENCE IS CONSIDERED AND THE VARIOUS BASIC AND APPLIED AREAS OF THE DISCIPLINE ARE DISCUSSED. THE BASIC AREAS ENCOMPASS THE VARIOUS PROCESSES OF THE PHYSIOLOGY OF SPEECH PRODUCTION, THE ACOUSTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SPEECH, INCLUDING THE SPEECH WAVE TYPES AND THE INFORMATION-BEARING ACOUSTIC…

HARRIS, JAMES W. – 1968
CERTAIN FEATURES IN THE MEXICAN PRONUNCIATION OF NASAL CONSONANTS ARE PRESENTED HERE AND LINGUISTIC GENERALIZATIONS ARE FORMULATED--FIRST IN TERMS OF A CURRENT THEORY OF UNIVERSAL PHONOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVE FEATURES, AND SECOND IN TERMS OF A REVISED DISTINCTIVE FEATURE FRAMEWORK INCORPORATING THE CHANGES PROPOSED BY CHOMSKY AND HALLE IN "THE SOUND…

Prado, Eduardo – Yelmo, 1975
Discusses the difficulty students of Spanish have in learning the correct articulation of the various allophones of the Spanish vowels. The main problem is that they assume there are no distributional variants. Lists of the allophones are given with their respective conditioning environments. (Text is in Spanish.) (TL)

Dodd, Barbara – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1976
Descriptors: Articulation (Speech), Deafness, Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research

Williams, Lee – Journal of Phonetics, 1977
Describes studies of voice onset time in Spanish and an acoustic feature termed presence versus absence of an abrupt consonant onset. It is suggested that this feature may be used by the Spanish listener in making a perceptual distinction between voiced and voiceless stop consonants in multiple environments. (Author/KM)
Descriptors: Acoustic Phonetics, Articulation (Speech), Auditory Perception, Consonants

McReynolds, Leija V.; Bennett, Shannon – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1972
Three children with severe articulation problems were trained in the production of features lacking in their repertoires to determine the extent of generalization of trained features across phonemes. (GW)
Descriptors: Articulation (Speech), Exceptional Child Research, Phonetics, Speech Handicaps

Edwards, Keith J.; Anderson, James G. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1972
The study obtained the results of a factor analysis of speech consonant articulation data for a sample of elementary school children with functional articulation disorders. (Author)
