Comparing Discipline Pre-COVID-19 to Post-COVID-19
Carolyn L. Ross
ProQuest LLC, D.Ed. Dissertation, University of St. Francis
COVID-19 had a significant impact on adolescents. Local governments mandated schools to cancel in-person schooling for the first time in history due to the heightened exposure to the coronavirus. The shift to virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic removed students from the supportive academic and social environment of the physical school setting. Upon students returning to school via hybrid or in-person, schools found increased behavior issues within a "new" normal post-pandemic environment. This study addressed the "new" normal of schools disciplining students post-COVID-19, which focused on the increased number of student occurrences with internal and external suspensions, how student misbehavior trends increased, and how the number of student disciplinary referrals increased.
