Sexual assault is an issue that impacts many college campuses; however, it was not known to what extent different college years (year in school) affect the probability of alcohol-related sexual assault, nor was it known to what extent race moderates the statistical relationship between college year and alcohol-related sexual assault. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study was to determine if there was a statistically significant relationship between college year of education and alcohol-related sexual assault among female college students in two U.S. universities when moderated for race and living on a college campus. Bronfenbrenner's social-ecological model guided the research, supporting the findings. Results of moderation analyses using multiple regression showed that race was not a statistically significant modifier of the relationship between college year and alcohol related sexual assault; the main effect of race/ethnicity was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Living on campus was a statistically significant modifier of the relationship between college year and alcohol related sexual assault. Implications for positive social change include considering cultural and racial factors when developing evidence-based interventions that can lead to safer college environments.
